Why I Built Jottoo

Too many meetings, too many notes

I've spent most of my career working in busy environments where meetings take up a big part of the day. Customer calls, team catch-ups, workshops — even coffee breaks somehow turn into meetings.

Over the last few years, I started using AI meeting assistants in Webex, Teams and Zoom, and I was genuinely impressed. They weren't perfect, but they were usually good enough to capture the conversation and save a lot of manual note-taking.

But I kept running into a few problems.

Where the existing tools fell short

Most of these tools rely on a bot joining the meeting, which isn't always possible in corporate environments without IT approval. They also don't work particularly well for in-person meetings, and sometimes recording a conversation simply isn't appropriate.

There were plenty of times when all I had was a recording, some handwritten notes, or a few points typed after a meeting.

The other problem was what happened after the meeting.

Most AI tools were good at telling me what was discussed, but I still had to work out what I needed to do next, track the actions, remember deadlines and keep commitments organised across different meetings.

One place, whatever the source

That's where the idea for Jottoo came from.

I wanted one place where the source of the note didn't really matter:

• Upload a meeting recording you already have
• Record a conversation from your phone or computer
• Type in the notes you took yourself

Jottoo then helps organise what was discussed, identify important points and decisions, and turn actions and deadlines into tasks you can actually track.

Your notes should stay in your control

Security was also important to me from the beginning.

Jottoo is designed to encrypt your notes on your device before they are stored in the cloud. Your data is protected using your account credentials and a recovery key that you create during signup.

The principle is simple: your notes are your data.

Not reinventing meeting notes

There are already plenty of AI note-taking tools out there, and many of them are very good. I'm not trying to pretend Jottoo invented AI meeting notes.

I just wanted something that worked regardless of whether the information came from Zoom, Webex, an in-person conversation, an uploaded recording or a few notes written down after a meeting.
